South Africa's dream of returning to the F1 calendar appears to have suffered a devastating blow, with Rwanda reportedly winning the race to bring the sport back to Africa.

South Africa's hopes of returning to Formula 1 have reportedly taken a major blow as Rwanda has emerged as the frontrunner to host a Grand Prix. According to reports, Rwanda is set to bring the sport back to the African continent with a race on the calendar by 2030, marking the first African F1 event since 1993.
Rwanda's project involves a permanent circuit designed by Alexander Wurz near Kigali's Bugesera International Airport. Meanwhile, South Africa's prior bids at Kyalami stalled over logistical and financial challenges, overshadowing recent plans for a new venue in the Western Cape.
