Following a surprisingly successful Formula 1 weekend in Malaysia, expectations were also high at Aston Martin for Singapore, a venue that should have suited the AMR26 on paper. However, the competitive picture at the Marina Bay Street Circuit proved rather disappointing…

Honda continues to struggle with turbo lag on its upgraded Formula 1 power unit, which hindered Aston Martin's driveability during the Singapore Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso reported performance issues following the race, leading Honda to send its power units back to Sakura for analysis. The investigation uncovered no hardware faults, but revealed that the circuit's layout and energy demands triggered recurring turbo lag despite an earlier turbocharger upgrade in Madrid.
Honda chief trackside engineer Shintaro Orihara explained that MGU-K harvesting could not adequately compensate for the delay in Singapore's energy-rich conditions, resulting in unstable acceleration. Rather than introducing new hardware, Honda is preparing software and calibration countermeasures to address the problem. Meanwhile, Aston Martin trackside officer Mike Krack stated the team also learned to better manage expectations and the emotional dynamics that follow unexpected success.
