Dumbarton Golf Club faces potential permanent closure after severe flooding submerged the 138-year-old Scottish course under an estimated 300 million liters of water following Storm Boelo. High winds of 80mph and heavy rains caused the River Leven to burst its banks and collapse an embankment, leaving the 18-hole course flooded.
Vice-captain Paul Savage warned the club has only one chance to recover, as incoming tides continue to bring water back through the collapsed embankment. The club has reduced its operating hours to save money for expected repairs, which may include sourcing extra pumps, rebuilding bridges, and re-sanding bunkers.
