The most significant change comes from Bryson DeChambeau, who is using a new 3D-printed driver from Avoda. The club was added to the USGA’s Conforming List at the start of the week and produced immediate results, including a 423-yard drive on Thursday. Conversely, Cameron Young has reverted to his older Titleist GT3 driver, the model he used for two wins in 2026, after a brief trial with a newer version.
Adam Scott made a tactical switch based on anticipated high winds, replacing his 9-wood with a 3-iron. The Australian explained the decision was about managing trajectory. “I’ve put my 3-iron in the bag this week. Sometimes I have a 9-wood in the bag. I’m not afraid to admit I use a 9-wood, but I don’t think it’s going to be as effective this week certainly with the wind,” Scott said. He added, “I think there’s a few iron shots off tees and just controlling that flight in the wind a little bit more with the 3-iron, I think, will be helpful.”
Multiple players have changed putters, including Brooks Koepka, Patrick Cantlay, and Rory McIlroy. Koepka moved to a Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5, while Cantlay switched to a TaylorMade Spider Tour X. These moves underscore the importance of confidence on the difficult greens typical of a US Open.
Wyndham Clark has formalized his relationship with his putter by signing a unique single-club endorsement deal with Ping. The agreement focuses on the Scottsdale TEC putter he put in his bag in April. Ping stated: “We’re excited to announce that Wyndham Clark has signed an agreement to exclusively play a Scottsdale TEC putter.” The company noted his performance since the change, explaining, “Since switching to an Ally Blue Onset, Wyndham set a Strokes Gained: Putting record for a PGA Tour event (+12.573) and notched his fourth PGA Tour title.”
