LIV Golf Faces Shutdown Threat as Star Player Reportedly Hopes for Bankruptcy

LIV Golf's future is in jeopardy amid reports that its Saudi Arabian funding could be withdrawn before the end of the 2026 season. Star signing Jon Rahm is allegedly hoping the tour collapses, allowing him a potential exit from his contract.

LIV Golf is confronting a severe crisis, with growing fears that its Saudi PIF funding could be terminated before the season concludes. This uncertainty has thrown the tour’s remaining schedule into doubt and has reportedly led star player Jon Rahm to hope for the league’s collapse.

The breakaway circuit, which has been scrambling for new investment since its Saudi backers announced they would stop funding after 2026, may see the money dry up even sooner. An insider revealed the anxiety within the tour, stating, “LIV Golf doesn’t know if or when the PIF will shut off the spigot.I truly don’t think anyone knows.” This has put the four remaining tournaments of the season on high alert.

Amid the turmoil, a bombshell report claims Rahm is looking for a way out. According to the source, “Multiple sources told FOS they believe Rahm is waiting – maybe even hoping for – LIV to miss a paycheck or file for bankruptcy so that he can exit his contract,” For his part, Rahm has distanced himself from the business side of the league. He stated, “I know nothing about business. I’m never going to claim to know anything about business, and if I was in a business pitch, I would not know the first thing to say. My job is to play golf, and I’ll say it is hard enough as it is.”

The situation creates a stark contrast with the official stance from LIV’s leadership. CEO Scott O’Neil projected confidence, claiming strong momentum. “We’ve begun sharing our business plan with prospective partners who recognize the opportunity in team golf on a global scale,” O’Neil said. Yet, with the next event not scheduled until late July, players and partners are left in a state of limbo, questioning if the tour will even make it to its season finale.
