Eugenio Chacarra had to make a late driver switch at the Abu Dhabi Championship but still made a decent start as he looks to hold off Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed in the Race To Dubai battle…

Race to Dubai leader Eugenio Chacarra was forced to use a replacement club during the opening round of the Abu Dhabi Championship after his regular driver cracked during the Pro-Am. Despite failing to find a single fairway on the front nine at Yas Links, the 26-year-old Spaniard rebounded on the back nine to card a two-under-par 70.
Chacarra is contending against playing partners Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed for the Harry Vardon Trophy. McIlroy finished two strokes ahead after carding a 68, while Reed posted a two-over 74 following a double bogey on the 18th hole. Francesco Laporta held the first-round lead after firing an opening 62.
