Austin Smotherman captured his second straight FedEx Cup Fall event Monday morning when he outlasted Seamus Power of Ireland with a par on the third playoff hole to win the rain-shortened Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Austin Smotherman won the rain-shortened Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Monday morning, defeating Séamus Power on the third playoff hole. The tournament was shortened to 54 holes after strong winds at Port Royal rendered conditions unplayable for the final round, leaving both golfers tied at 16-under 197 before entering the sudden-death playoff on the par-3 16th hole.
The victory marks Smotherman's second consecutive FedEx Cup Fall title following his win at the Bank of Utah Championship. The win secures Smotherman a spot in the upcoming U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and elevates him to No. 51 in the FedEx Cup standings, while runner-up Power improved to No. 68 to lock up his PGA Tour card.
