Australian media teased King Charles over potential "Royal regret" after Point Of Law, a horse bred and sold by the monarch, became the favourite for the £5 million Melbourne Cup. Point Of Law secured a decisive victory in the Geelong Cup on Wednesday during his debut for Australian trainer Ciaron Maher. Following the win, bookmakers slashed his Melbourne Cup odds to 7-1 ahead of the November 3 race.
Point Of Law defeated the Joseph O'Brien-trained Small Fry and Omni Man to claim the £150,000 contest under jockey Ethan Brown. The three-year-old, sired by Frankel, previously ran in Britain for John and Thady Gosden, winning the Bahrain Trophy in July before being sold in a multi-million-pound transfer.
