The Story in 60 Seconds

Jockey Ben Allen received a 16-meeting suspension and a $5,000 fine for whip rule breaches following his ride on Royal Supremacy in the Melbourne Cup. Allen established a lead of over 20 lengths aboard the 51-1 outsider before the horse tired in the straight and finished fifth behind winner Point Of Law at Flemington.

Racing Victoria stewards questioned Allen over allegations of acting as a pacemaker for trainer Ciaron Maher's stablemates, but cleared him of any tactical wrongdoing. However, Allen pleaded guilty to striking his mount 10 times prior to the 100-meter mark, exceeding the permitted limit of five strikes.
