Point Of Law became the most lightly-raced modern winner of the Melbourne Cup after claiming victory in the $10 million Group 1 feature at Flemington in just his sixth career start. Trained by Ciaron Maher, who secured his second Melbourne Cup win and completed a trifecta in the race, the $7 race favorite scored by 3-3/4 lengths over Zahrann and Juja Kibo.

The son of Frankel debuted only 206 days earlier in Great Britain before being purchased by Maher following a win in the Bahrain Trophy. After missing a Caulfield Cup run, Point Of Law won the Geelong Cup, successfully completing the Geelong Cup and Melbourne Cup double.
