Sydney filly Proxima Dea preserved her flawless record by winning the $1 million Group 1 VRC Oaks over 2500 meters at Flemington on Thursday. Trained by David Payne and ridden by jockey Zac Lloyd, the $2.10 favorite secured her sixth consecutive victory and second Group 1 crown of her debut racing preparation.
Despite racing three-wide from an outside barrier throughout the event, Proxima Dea pulled clear in the straight to win by 1-3/4 lengths over runner-up Shameful Impulse and third-place finisher De Armas. The victory marked Lloyd's first Group 1 win in Melbourne, after which Payne confirmed the filly will now head for a spell.
