The Story in 60 Seconds

Three former Minnesota Twins players will compete in the World Series as the Tampa Bay Rays face the Milwaukee Brewers. Tampa Bay earned their spot by defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the ALCS, while Milwaukee swept the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the NLCS. With neither franchise having previously won a championship, at least one former Twin will secure a World Series ring.

The three players feature Brewers backup catcher Gary Sánchez and closer Trevor Megill, alongside Rays pitcher Griffin Jax. Sánchez and Megill both played for Minnesota in 2022 before eventually finding key roles in Milwaukee. Jax, who pitched for the Twins from 2021 through 2025, was traded to Tampa Bay in 2025 and returned to starting pitching in 2026.
