AZ Snake Pit named Ryan Waldschmidt's pinch-hit walk-off home run against the Chicago Cubs as the Arizona Diamondbacks' 2026 Play of the Year. Trailing by one run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Waldschmidt hit a two-run homer off Cubs reliever Jacob Webb to seal the victory. The hit made him the first rookie in Diamondbacks franchise history to hit a pinch-hit walk-off home run.
According to writer Jim McLennan, the clutch blast was chosen over Waldschmidt's other August walk-off home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to the higher quality of opposition pitching and superior dramatic leverage. Statcast measured the home run at 102.6 mph with a 408-foot projected distance, delivering a +85.5% win probability swing.
