Houston Astros pitcher Tatsuya Imai will not opt out of his contract following his first MLB season, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman. The decision keeps the right-hander in Houston on his current deal, which has two years and $36 million remaining, with another opt-out available after the 2027 campaign.
Imai originally signed a three-year, $54 million deal with the Astros in January 2026 after being posted by the Saitama Seibu Lions. In his debut season, he went 6-4 with a 4.93 ERA across rotation and bullpen roles, helping pitch in a combined no-hitter before Houston's postseason exit.
