After rocky season, Springs unsure what future holds with A’s

Athletics pitcher Jeffrey Springs completed his final start of the season in a 7-3 victory over the Angels at Sutter Health Park. The 34-year-old left-hander allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings, concluding a difficult campaign in which he recorded a 6.19 ERA and surrendered 35 home runs. Facing an uncertain future, Springs acknowledged that his poor performance leaves his status in doubt ahead of the offseason.

The Athletics hold a $15 million club option for the 2027 season or can trigger a $750,000 buyout. Manager Mark Kotsay praised the veteran for his durability and accountability, noting Springs pitched through a second-half hip issue. Acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in December 2024, Springs made 59 starts across two seasons for the club.
