Phillies activate LHP Jesus Luzardo off IL ahead of season finale

The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated All-Star left-hander Jesus Luzardo from the 15-day injured list on Sunday ahead of their regular-season finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. To make room on the roster, the Phillies designated right-hander Jose Urquidy for assignment. Entering Sunday's game with an 87-74 record, Philadelphia can clinch its fifth consecutive postseason berth with a win or an Arizona Diamondbacks loss.

Luzardo had been sidelined since mid-September with left shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old first-time All-Star has produced a 14-5 record, a 2.87 ERA, and a career-best 221 strikeouts across 29 starts during the 2026 season. Urquidy posted a 3.68 ERA in two appearances for Philadelphia after being claimed off waivers earlier in the month.
