The Boston Red Sox replaced injured outfielder Roman Anthony with infielder Curtis Mead on their wild-card series roster ahead of Game 2 against the New York Yankees. Manager Chad Tracy confirmed that imaging revealed additional damage to muscles in Anthony's right hand and wrist, an issue that previously sidelined him for nearly four months earlier this season. Anthony aggravated the injury during Game 1.
MLB approved the substitution, making Anthony ineligible to return for the AL Division Series, though he could play in the AL Championship Series if Boston advances. Mead joins the postseason roster after recovering from a broken left wrist suffered on July 27 shortly following his trade acquisition from the Washington Nationals.
