Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson revealed that he played through a right wrist injury for roughly half of the 2026 season. Henderson noted that he will not need offseason surgery and downplayed the ailment's role in his statistical decline, attributing his struggles to trying to force results at the plate. Despite the issue, he avoided an injured list stint and finished the campaign batting .226/.311/.404 with 24 home runs.
The wrist injury follows a 2025 campaign where the 25-year-old dealt with a shoulder impingement for most of the year. Henderson remained productive defensively and generated 3.7 wins above replacement according to FanGraphs. Entering his next arbitration cycle, Henderson is expected to see his salary reach eight figures for the first time in 2027.
