The Baltimore Orioles have laid off at least 24 employees following the end of their regular season, including the performers behind the iconic Oriole Bird mascot and Mr. Splash. The cuts affected multiple departments across the organization, such as graphic design, ticket sales, and team photography, following a 79-82 campaign that saw the club miss the playoffs.
Despite the performer's dismissal, the Orioles confirmed that the Oriole Bird character and the "Bird Bath" section will continue to feature at games and community events. In an internal memo, president of business operations Catie Griggs stated that the changes were focused on ensuring the organization is staffed for future work rather than simply reducing headcount.
