The Story in 60 Seconds

Baltimore Orioles closer Ryan Helsley has exercised his $14 million player option to return to the team for the 2027 season. The decision comes after an injury-shortened 2026 campaign during which Helsley made only 17 appearances. The right-hander served two separate stints on the injured list for right elbow issues, ultimately being sidelined for good in early July.

In his brief action with Baltimore, Helsley converted eight of nine save opportunities across 15.1 innings. Meanwhile, the Orioles are reportedly declining a $20 million option on outfielder Luis Robert Jr., opting to pay a $2 million buyout instead after Robert played just three games due to a hamstring injury.
