Ex-New York Mets general manager Jim Duquette has seen the good version of Gunnar Henderson, and he has watched the Baltimore Orioles’ trade market open around him.

Former Mets general manager Jim Duquette suggested on the Foul Territory podcast that the Baltimore Orioles should adjust Gunnar Henderson's hitting mechanics rather than trade him. Duquette proposed using the hitting approach J.D. Martinez shared with Pete Alonso with the Mets in 2024 to correct Henderson's swing. Henderson's production declined to a .225 batting average with 24 home runs in 2026, following a strong 37-homer campaign in 2024.
While Baltimore is exploring roster changes after a 79-82 season under Mike Elias and Jared Banner, trading the 25-year-old shortstop remains unlikely without a massive return. Henderson remains under club control through 2028.
