The first baseman put the ball in chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s court.

Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras stated that the team needs to acquire more offense during the offseason. Speaking after Boston was eliminated by the New York Yankees in the Wild Card Series, Contreras indicated that upgrading the lineup is chief baseball officer Craig Breslow's responsibility to figure out.
Contreras led the Red Sox with 27 home runs and 81 RBI during his 2026 campaign. Boston finished near the bottom of Major League Baseball in several offensive categories, ranking 26th in home runs and 23rd in total runs scored.
