Chicago Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy is expected to return for the 2027 season, but that doesn't change what needs to happen.

Chicago Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy is expected to return to Craig Counsell's coaching staff for the 2027 season, according to a report from The Athletic. Speculation regarding Hottovy's future had emerged after Jed Hoyer noted the organization would prioritize pitching and potentially alter its pitching development plan following the 2026 campaign.
Writer Jordan Campbell argues that dismissing Hottovy would have been a mistake given significant injuries to Justin Steele and Cade Horton. Campbell also notes that a looming December 2 lockout would hinder any incoming pitching coach's communication with players on the 40-man roster.
