Former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo said the team faces a clear decision on longtime outfielder Ian Happ this offseason, suggesting the club could retain him in a limited role or move on from left field entirely.
Former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo stated the team faces a major decision regarding outfielder Ian Happ, who is entering free agency. Speaking with Casino.ca, Rizzo suggested the Cubs could retain Happ in a platoon role against right-handed pitchers or choose to replace him in left field entirely, praising his steady decade-long tenure.
Happ concluded a three-year, $61 million contract extension after batting .218 with 24 home runs in 156 games during 2026. Rizzo noted that while Happ's elite defense remains valuable, Chicago must evaluate their roster alongside other offseason priorities such as pitching following their Wild Card exit.
