The Chicago Cubs' season ended after falling 4-1 to the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series. The Padres completed a 2-0 series sweep to advance to the Division Series. San Diego took an early lead off Cubs starter Kevin Gausman in the second inning before Gavin Sheets extended the advantage with a two-run homer off reliever Daniel Palencia in the fourth.
Chicago managed only one run, coming in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Nico Hoerner to score Seiya Suzuki. The Cubs offense struggled throughout the contest, tallying just five total hits against Nick Pivetta and five Padres relievers.
