The Chicago Cubs may have had a disappointingly short run in the playoffs this season, but there was no disappointment at all when it came to the corner turned by their franchise asset Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong attributed his breakout 2026 campaign to a May conversation with teammate Alex Bregman. Crow-Armstrong explained that the discussion focused on plate discipline and pitch selection, helping him commit to swinging only at pitches he was hunting. Bregman noted that the goal was to improve swing decisions and walk rates rather than trying to cover every pitch.
Following a slow start through May 29, the 24-year-old posted historic offensive numbers. Crow-Armstrong finished the year batting .280 with 45 home runs, 107 RBIs, and 41 stolen bases, becoming just the seventh MLB player to join the 40-40 club while posting a league-leading 9.8 WAR.
