With the Phillies and Athletics among the teams looking to fill staff positions this offseason, White Sox staffers Walker McKinven and Josh Barfield could be prime candidates to move on.
Southside Showdown's Noah Phalen highlights Chicago White Sox bench coach Walker McKinven and assistant general manager Josh Barfield as potential candidates to be hired away by rival clubs this offseason. Following the White Sox's surprising 2026 playoff run, Phalen suggests that opposing teams seeking leadership changes could target key members of Chicago's coaching and front-office staff for promotions.
Phalen notes that McKinven could emerge as a managerial candidate for teams such as the Philadelphia Phillies or Seattle Mariners. Meanwhile, Barfield is viewed as a potential general manager target for the Athletics, while Chicago also faces the departure of amateur scouting director Mike Shirley.
