The Mariners have claimed first baseman Michael Toglia off waivers from the Reds, per a team announcement. It wasn’t previously reported that Cincinnati had placed Toglia on waivers.
The Seattle Mariners have claimed first baseman Michael Toglia off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds, according to a team announcement. Toglia had been on the 60-day injured list since early September after suffering a dislocated shoulder that required season-ending surgery. He appeared in just 10 games for Cincinnati after being called up from Triple-A Louisville in mid-August.
Toglia is out of minor league options and offers depth at first base, corner outfield, and designated hitter. Because players on the injured list cannot be placed on outright waivers, Seattle likely claimed him off release waivers. The Mariners are expected to keep Toglia on the 60-day injured list until after the World Series.
