Wick Terrell argues that Cincinnati Reds outfielder JJ Bleday is poised for better production in 2027 following an unlucky finish to his 2026 campaign. After signing for $1.4 million, Bleday posted an overall .217 batting average, a .740 OPS, and 1.2 bWAR across 545 plate appearances. His campaign was marked by an elite start, earning NL Player of the Month honors in May with a 1.053 OPS through June 1st before declining sharply.
Terrell highlights that from June 2nd onward, Bleday suffered an MLB-worst .216 BABIP among 163 qualified hitters despite posting solid batted-ball metrics. The writer contends that while Bleday's extreme fly-ball profile lowers his expected average, normal regression should lift his overall output next season if he maintains a similar approach.
