Guardians manager Stephen Vogt faced plenty of criticism for how he handled his pitching staff in Thursday's win.
Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt announced that ace Gavin Williams will start the decisive ALDS Game 5 against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Despite pitching in relief during Thursday's Game 4 victory, Williams was cleared to start after Vogt explained the appearance functioned essentially as a high-intensity bullpen session.
Williams threw only 18 pitches in relief, meaning the physical toll should be minimal heading into the elimination matchup. Vogt emphasized that all pitchers on the roster must be prepared for an all-hands-on-deck contest as Williams faces White Sox starter Sean Burke.
