Casey Mize's projected price tag in free agency puts to bed any argument that the Tigers should re-sign him in the offseason.

Connor Muldowney of Motor City Bengals argues that a projected six-year, $115 million free-agent contract should eliminate any possibility of the Detroit Tigers re-signing starting pitcher Casey Mize. Traded to the San Diego Padres at the deadline, Mize struggled down the stretch, posting a 6.26 ERA in August and an 8.72 ERA in September.
The writer believes the length and cost of such a deal make Mize too risky given his extensive injury history. Instead, Muldowney suggests Tigers executives Chris Ilitch and Scott Harris should pursue other starting pitchers on the free-agent market.
