We talk a lot about the missteps of the current Tigers regime. Perhaps it's time to discuss the limitations and frustrations they've faced as well.

Motor City Bengals writer Stephen Riesen argues that difficult decisions, financial limitations, and inherited roster obstacles have defined Scott Harris's tenure as Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations. Despite criticism, Harris has overseen a 327-321 record and guided Detroit to consecutive playoff appearances in his second and third seasons following a decade-long drought.
Riesen points out that Harris had to rebuild organizational depth after inheriting a depleted farm system from previous general manager Al Avila. Harris also navigated strict payroll constraints, inherited cumbersome contracts such as Javier Báez's, and ultimately resolved long-running trade pressure by dealing ace pitcher Tarik Skubal in August 2026.
