The Tigers should at least consider adding NPB Triple Crown winner Teruaki Sato in free agency.

Katrina Stebbins of Motor City Bengals argues that the Detroit Tigers should pursue Japanese star Teruaki Sato if they decide to spend this offseason. The Hanshin Tigers announced they would approve the 27-year-old third baseman and outfielder for posting to Major League Baseball. Sato won the NPB Triple Crown in 2026 after batting .306 with 39 home runs and 106 RBIs.
Stebbins contends that Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris should target Sato if his market resembles Munetaka Murakami's previous two-year, $34 million deal. Sato could potentially replace utility player Matt Vierling, giving Detroit an offensive boost before the collective bargaining agreement expires.
