The Story in 60 Seconds

The Detroit Tigers announced that they have exercised their $10 million option on swingman Drew Anderson. At the same time, the club declined a $12 million option on veteran closer Kenley Jansen, instead paying him a $2 million buyout. In an additional roster move, Detroit re-signed right-handed pitcher Jacob Waguespack to a one-year, $1.3 million guaranteed contract featuring up to $200,000 in performance bonuses.

To clear 40-man roster spots for these transactions, Detroit made four corresponding cuts. The Tigers placed pitchers Bailey Horn and Sawyer Gipson-Long on release waivers and designated reliever Yilber Díaz for assignment. Outfielder Corey Julks was sent outright off the roster, cleared waivers, and subsequently elected free agency.
