Joe Espada, who guided the Houston Astros to two American League West titles in his three seasons as manager, will not be returning to the team in 2027.
The Houston Astros announced Wednesday that they will not renew the contract of manager Joe Espada when it expires at the end of the month. Espada, who went 256-229 in three seasons, led the team to two AL West titles before being swept by the Chicago White Sox in the 2026 AL wild-card series. Owner Jim Crane thanked Espada, while the franchise also permitted the Seattle Mariners to interview him for their managerial vacancy.
Houston faces major leadership changes following the earlier dismissal of general manager Dana Brown in August. The Astros also dismissed several assistants, including third base coach Tony Perezchica and assistant pitching coach Ethan Katz, while retaining pitching coach Josh Miller and hitting coach Victor Rodriguez for the 2027 season.
