Astros’ Josh Hader collapses under the weight of a top-heavy roster

Josh Hader threw 44 pitches and surrendered a walk-off single to Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor in a 6-5 extra-innings loss at T-Mobile Park on Wednesday night. Hader entered in the 10th inning with a 5-4 lead after Houston Astros catcher Yainer Diaz hit an RBI triple, but could not hold the lead, preventing Houston from taking sole possession of first place in the American League West.

The defeat leaves the Astros tied with the Texas Rangers atop the division with four regular-season games remaining, though Houston holds the tiebreaker. Manager Joe Espada announced that Hader will be unavailable for Thursday's series opener against the Athletics, and the closer's availability for the remainder of the season remains uncertain.
