The Tampa Bay Rays have named right-hander Drew Rasmussen as their starting pitcher for World Series Game 5 against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. Facing elimination while trailing 3-1 in the series, the Rays are calling upon Rasmussen on short rest instead of waiting for a potential Game 6 start on Friday.
Rasmussen is likely facing a pitch count of roughly 50 pitches, though the report notes he could reach closer to 75. After throwing 89 pitches across 3.2 innings in Game 2 on Saturday, Wednesday would normally have served as a scheduled bullpen session for him.
