He has been on Seattle’s radar before, first when they interviewed him for a major league hitting coach role back in 2021.

Jason Kanzler has been named the new manager of the Seattle Mariners, becoming the 19th full-time manager in franchise history. General manager Justin Hollander and president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto selected Kanzler following the dismissal of Dan Wilson after a 76-86 season. Hollander praised Kanzler's dynamic personality and extensive background as an analytics-forward player development coach during the hiring process.
Kanzler previously served as the director of player development for the Chicago Cubs and worked on Dusty Baker's Houston Astros coaching staff during their 2022 World Series championship run. A former high school teacher and minor league player, Kanzler expressed his excitement to lead Seattle's roster, highlighting star players Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh as he takes over the dugout.
