Hall of Fame broadcaster Matthews to be celebrated for 8,000th game of legendary career

Hall of Fame broadcaster Denny Matthews will call his 8,000th career game on Friday night when the Kansas City Royals host the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium. Matthews has been broadcasting Royals games since the franchise's inaugural season in 1969. The team will honor his milestone achievement with recognitions on the television broadcast and a special ceremony on the field.

The milestone was verified during the offseason after media members reviewed decades of Matthews' preserved scorecards spanning 58 seasons. Matthews also confirmed he plans to return to the broadcast booth for his 59th season in 2027.
