MLB owners and representatives from players’ union began preliminary negotiations on a new labor deal earlier this year, and each side has made suggestions on changes they want to make to the game. Many of these proposals are simply bargaining…

Major League Baseball owners and the players' union have outlined preliminary proposals for a new collective bargaining agreement. Owners suggested establishing a $245 million salary cap with a $171 million floor, pooling local TV revenue equally among all 30 clubs, capping contract lengths at five years, eliminating deferrals, and shortening the regular season to 154 games.
In response, players proposed raising the Competitive Balance Tax threshold to $300 million, implementing a penalty for payrolls under $150 million, and raising the league minimum salary to $1.5 million. The union also suggested lowering free agency eligibility to five years for players over 30 and expanding the pre-arbitration bonus pool to $180 million.
