Wacha shows why he’s rock of Royals’ rotation with first 200-inning season

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha reached the 200-inning milestone for the first time in his 14-year career on Saturday night. The 35-year-old right-hander pitched 6 1/3 innings during an 11-5 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium. Wacha finished the night with 200 2/3 innings pitched to lead the American League with one day remaining in the regular season.

Wacha also matched a career high with 158 strikeouts and set a personal best with 32 starts during the 2026 campaign. Despite Kansas City falling to a 68-93 record, manager Matt Quatraro praised the veteran's durability and leadership. The Royals previously held onto Wacha through the trade deadline, viewing him as a central piece for their 2027 rotation amid numerous pitching injuries.
