MILWAUKEE -- It was nearly one year ago that Shohei Ohtani was slumping badly at the plate through the NLDS and the beginning of the NLCS.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping Shohei Ohtani can break out of a prolonged offensive slump during the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, similar to his dramatic surge against them last year. Ohtani went just 2-for-13 (.154) with four strikeouts in the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves, and he has not hit a home run since August 18.
Ohtani is managing lingering right biceps and left knee injuries that have hampered him since June, though the Dodgers believe he is physically improved following rest. Ahead of Game 1, Ohtani took on-field batting practice, with hitting coach Aaron Bates and manager Dave Roberts noting that controlling the strike zone will be crucial against Brewers pitchers.
