October for the Chicago Cubs usually means arguments about the rotation, the payroll and whether the front office will finally spend like a team that wants more than a Wild Card exit.
MLB Network reporter Jon Morosi reported that the Chicago Cubs face steep competition from the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets in free agency for pitcher Tarik Skubal. Skubal is expected to hit the open market as a free agent following the postseason after playing for the Dodgers.
Morosi noted that signing Skubal would require resetting the market for starting pitchers with a massive contract. While the Cubs need rotation help, Morosi expressed skepticism that Chicago will outbid big-spending clubs like the Dodgers and Mets.
