The New York Yankees find themselves in a similar position to last year, having been eliminated in the division round for a second consecutive season in 2026, extending their World Series drought.

Writer Chaitanya Prakash argues that the New York Yankees should pursue two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal in free agency following their 2026 ALDS exit. Prakash notes that adding Skubal would bolster a starting rotation that struggled with injuries to Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Max Fried, while easing the workload on pitcher Cam Schlittler.
Skubal joined the Los Angeles Dodgers mid-season before entering free agency, where he is reportedly projected by ESPN to command an eight-year, $355 million contract. The Dodgers and New York Mets are also expected to compete for the left-hander's signature.
