Mets rookie Carson Benge’s confident reaction to breaking NY’s rookie hit record

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge broke the franchise's single-season rookie hits record on Saturday during a 10-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. Benge collected his 156th hit of the season, surpassing Pete Alonso's previous record of 155 hits set in 2019. The milestone hit came on an RBI infield single in the eighth inning.

Benge finished the game with three hits, including a home run off Phillies starter Andrew Painter. The Mets' offense was also sparked by a go-ahead three-run home run from Francisco Alvarez in the fifth inning. Additionally, the pregame ceremony featured the Mets retiring Carlos Beltran's number.
