MIAMI -- The Marlins exercised ace Sandy Alcantara's $21 million team option for 2027 on Friday. There was a $2 million buyout if Miami chose not to bring Alcantara back.

The Miami Marlins exercised ace starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara's $21 million team option for the 2027 season on Friday, avoiding a $2 million buyout. President of baseball operations Peter Bendix praised the 31-year-old's performance and clubhouse leadership, while manager Clayton McCullough and the organization secured their rotation anchor for another campaign.
Alcantara led Major League Baseball with 214 innings pitched across 33 starts in 2026, his second year back from Tommy John surgery. Across eight seasons with Miami, the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner has compiled a 65-78 record with a 3.69 ERA in 205 games.
