Athletics Stun the World Series Champions as They Hire New GM Ahead of 2027

The Athletics have officially hired Cam Castro as their new general manager ahead of the 2027 season. Castro joins the franchise after spending eight years with the World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers, where he served as senior vice president of player development and performance. He will partner with Taylor Smith, who assumed the role of Athletics president of baseball operations in October.

Castro replaces David Forst, who stepped down in August 2026 after serving as general manager since 2015. Castro takes charge of a team that finished 64-98 in 2026 and posted an MLB-worst 5.43 ERA, bringing his pitching development background to the franchise ahead of its scheduled 2028 move to Las Vegas.
