The Milwaukee Brewers officially named designated hitter Christian Yelich the first captain in franchise history on Saturday. The announcement occurred before Milwaukee defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 at American Family Field for their MLB-leading 102nd win. Yelich, who is in his ninth season with the club, debuted the captain's "C" on his jersey as a pinch-hitter.
According to manager Pat Murphy, Yelich requested the blessing of franchise legend Robin Yount before accepting the honor. Yelich joins Aaron Judge and Salvador Perez as one of three active captains across Major League Baseball as Milwaukee enters the postseason with the National League's No. 1 seed.
