Bichette bypassing opt-out, returning to Mets for 2027 season (source)

Bo Bichette has opted into the second season of his three-year, $126 million contract to remain with the New York Mets for 2027, according to a source. The decision guarantees the third baseman $42 million for the upcoming season. Had Bichette chosen to opt out, the Mets would have owed him a $5 million buyout, though he maintains the ability to opt out again following the 2027 campaign.

After a difficult start to his first season in New York that included a sub-.600 OPS into June, Bichette rebounded to post a .285/.337/.442 slash line the rest of the way. His return solidifies the left side of the Mets' infield alongside shortstop Francisco Lindor as the franchise turns its offseason focus toward pitching needs.
