New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge became the first rookie in franchise history to go 20-20, while right-hander Nolan McLean struck out 194. Still, the club finished 74-88 and missed October again.
MLB insider Chelsea Janes reported that New York Mets owner Steve Cohen likely feels urgency heading into the offseason after the club finished 74-88 and missed the postseason. With Citi Field attendance dropping 14.8 percent, Cohen and president of baseball operations David Stearns previously acknowledged that last winter's roster overhaul carried excessive risk.
To address pitching needs ahead of an impending CBA expiration on December 1, Janes suggested Cohen could aggressively target free-agent left-hander Tarik Skubal, who is projected to command over $300 million. Other potential offseason pitching pursuits mentioned include impending free-agent reliever Adrian Morejon.
